Football is the sport that played a large and formative role in my childhood, as it has in many others. Fading Dreams is a reflection upon the first childhood dream to become a football player. It is interested in how for almost everyone, this dream fades away as one gets older; slowly we find new paths and new goals, which separates us from the ambitions we once had. Fading Dreams celebrates this fading nature of my first dream as a child. It’s also a celebration of the sport that played an important part in my upbringing. How it shapes personal character, helped to form friendships and allows one to grow from the experiences of both winning and losing. I made the photographs from this series, after returning to my home town to photograph a boy called Wilf who currently plays for my childhood team. The story starts with the boy stepping out into a new day wearing the number 10 shirt. The series follows the boy as he realises that in finding a new goal, his original dream of becoming a football player had faded out and had been replaced.
